Many years ago I watched a movie titled “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”. Basically, the earth was about to be annihilated by a huge asteroid. Everyone knew with some advance notice it was going to happen and were dealing with it as best they could. One group of people decided to have an end of the world party. At that party there was a woman dressed in the finest clothes, draped in all her valuable jewels. A guest asked why she was wearing her finery for such a depressing party. She answered with, I am wearing everything in my closet that I have never worn. She was saving all of those items for a special occasion, a special occasion that never arrived. That scene affected me then, and resonates with me now. How many things are we saving for a special occasion? Shoes and dresses that will never be worn? Fancy china that will never be used? Calls never made? Cake never eaten? Risks never taken? Bucket list never achieved?
It is so easy to say “I’m in”, much more difficult to motivate and actually do it. But I say, let’s stop saving everything for later and start being fabulous every day. EVERY. DAMN. DAY.
Now if you need me, I’ll be the one shopping for groceries in a tiara. And no, I don’t have a tiara yet...but I know where to get one…and I’ll rock it.
